Fundraising is one of the focuses of the Relay Recess program. Funds raised through the Relay Recess program funds the mission of the American Cancer Society, and helps to create a world with more birthdays!
Fundraising is more than just raising money; it can help build and foster teamwork, and teach kids about giving back. The fundraising activities for Relay Recess can be simple, from asking for donations via email, or a little more advanced, such as organizing classroom competitions. It’s up to you to decide what will work best for your school. Here’s a few ideas to get you started!

- Faculty Jeans Day - Encourage teachers and principals to pay a $5 donation to wear jeans for a day or $20 to wear jeans for an entire week.
- Hat Day - Allow students, staff, and faculty to wear their favorite hat to school in exchange for a $1 donation. Consider holding Hat Day twice a year to continue cancer awareness and give your school even more chances to help save lives
- Decorate Luminaria Bags - Collaborate with your local Relay For Life event and start a luminaria bag decorating service! For a small donation, your students can decorate luminaria bags for those who don't want to decorate luminaria bags.
- Recycle - Go green while going purple for your Relay Recess event! Collect plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and any other recyclable items, and take them to your local recycling center. Donate the money you receive for your recycling efforts to your event.
